Soke Edgardo Serrano
President
and Founder
Edgar Serrano was born in Salinas, Puerto
Rico in 1943. He started in Martial Arts training in late 1962, with Grand Master Peter Urban in New Jersey.
Then in between 1963-1967 he served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. While stationed in Osaka, Japan he
studied Sosai Mas Oyama's Kyokushikai.
Later in 1969, he moved to Puerto Rico.
During 1975-1978, he continued studing Kyokushinkai with Shihan Jose A. Martines in Caguas, Puerto Rico . Then he returned
to the U.S. in 1984 and continued studing Kyokushinkai with Shihan Michael Monaco in Rochester, New York. In 1988, he
started practicing Kishi Karate-Do with Master Kishi. Then in 1989 he practiced Sho Shin Karate-Do with Hanshi
Jose O. Rivera. In 1995 he moved back to San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico and founded Sho Shin Karate-Do in 1996.
In 2001, he founded Taiku Ryu Karate-Do of
Puerto Rico, currently President & Founder Taiku Ryu Karate-Do Association of Puerto Rico, Inc.
